Christian Bowers, MD

Elected Neurosurgeon Board Members hold full voting rights and are required to maintain an active, paid membership with the Michigan Association of Neurosurgeons (MANS). They are expected to attend board meetings, participate in decision-making, and contribute to the strategic direction of the organization.

Full Bio of Christian Bowers, MD

Dr. Christian Bowers is a neurosurgeon who is recognized as the world’s leading expert on frailty's impact on neurosurgical outcomes, with more than 125 frailty-related publications in the last 4 years. He is frequently invited to speak at national and international forums on frailty-based risk assessment for neurosurgical outcomes and scholarly productivity metrics. In 2024 alone, he was invited to deliver 18 oral presentations at major society meetings, including the Senior Society (SNS), AANS, CNS, and the Joint AANS/CNS Spine Section meetings. He was awarded Avant Garde Health's Research All Star award, with the highest possible designation, for being in the Top 1% of all of neurosurgery, based on research productivity and impact. He is also recognized as being within the top 5% of the world's most cited neurosurgical researchers (Doximity). He has earned numerous national awards, including the 2015 AANS Synthes Skull Base Award, the 2019 NREF Young Clinical Investigator Award. 

Why are you interested in serving on the Board of Directors?

I would like to increase the footprint for MANS and serve the overall neurosurgery community throughout Michigan. 

What are you goals for the organization, and how would you help achieve them if elected to the Board?

I would like to focus on collegiality with trying to have various journal clubs and meetings.
