Medical Student Poster Session Guidelines/Requirements

LOCATION:
44th Annual Summer Meeting

Crystal Mountain Resort, Thompsonville, MI
August 14-16, 2026

AWARDS:  Awards will be presented to the top two posters based on surgeon voting and be announced and recognized on Sunday.

 • 1st Place Poster Award  • 2nd Place Poster Award

ELIGIBILITY:   Medical students interested in neurosurgery, neuroscience, neurological surgery research, patient care, medical education, healthcare innovation, or related fields.

Students may submit one poster as the primary presenter.

DEADLINE:  The deadline for electronic submission of abstracts is July 3, 2026.

Poster Categories may include:

  • Basic Science Research
  • Clinical Research
  • Quality Improvement Projects
  • Case Reports or Case Series
  • Medical Education Projects
  • Neuroscience or Neurosurgery-Related Topics

Poster Should Include:  Your poster should include the following key elements:

  • Reason for your work - What is the importance of this study?
  • Problem - What does your work attempt to solve?
  • Methodology - What is the approach that you used in your study or review?
  • Results - What are findings/data that indicate the result of your work?
  • Implications - What changes, if any, should be implemented as a result of your findings and how do your findings add to neurosurgical knowledge? 

Poster Format:

  • Maximum poster size:  36" x 48" (landscape orientation preferred)
  • Posters should be professionally printed and brought by the presenter.
  • MANS will provide display boards and mounting material.

Requirements:

  • Presenters must be members (FREE membership) and registered for the summer meeting.
  • Presenters are expected to be present during the designated poster session to discuss their work with attendees.
  • Posters should remain on display throughout the assigned sessions.

JUDGING CRITERIA: Posters will be discussed, reviewed and scored by neurosurgeon attendees using the following criteria:

  • Scientific Merit
  • Relevance to Neurosurgery
  • Quality of Methods
  • Quality of Results and Conclusions
  • Poster Organization and Visual Presentation
  • Presenter Knowledge and Discussion

SUBMISSION: Students must submit the following and await confirmation.

  • Poster Title
  • Author(s) and Institution
  • Faculty Mentor (if applicable)
  • Abstract (maximum 300 words)
  • Submit your abstract to Cindy Nack, admin@mansneurosurgery.org AND indicate "Student Poster 2026" in the subject line of the email.

To help reduce travel expenses, we encourage you to rideshare and share a room with another attendee.
